Together with TrIQ and LesMigraS we're happy to invite you to our information and exchange event: "CHANGING NAME AND GENDER MARKER AS A REFUGEE OR MIGRANT: Applying the self-determination law", with input by Ege, Misha and Tulli, who will share their experiences with the SBGG as refugees, migrants and/or counselors, moderated by Arootin. After those inputs, there'll be delicious food and time for discussions and for receiving tips and advice from counselors and the community.

🗓 11 October 2025 | 1 - 5 p.m.

Villa Lützow Hall, Lützowstraße 28, 10785 Berlin

Since November 2024, trans, inter*, and non-binary (TIN) people have been able to change their first names and gender markers under the Self-Determination Act (SBGG). However, many TIN people with refugee or migration experience continue to be denied access to the SBGG or face significant practical and legal barriers when attempting to apply the law.

We invite interested community members and community organizations to an information and exchange event on how refugees and TIN migrants can change their name and gender marker.

We have invited some TIN speakers with refugee or migration experience who have already used the SBGG to share their experiences. And those who would like to use the SBGG will have the opportunity to receive tips and advice from the community and counselors.
