Clay listens.
It holds what we bring to it.
Every press, every pause, every trace of touch is welcomed.

This ritual with clay is a gentle offering for QTI*BIPOC folks to slow down and arrive into the body and into creativity. Working with clay invites us into a quieter rhythm, where touch becomes a way of listening and presence becomes enough.

When your hands meet the earth,
softening begins.
letting go becomes possible.
form comes into being.

Clay allows us to stay close to what we carry. We honor the ways emotions move us toward creativity, shaping how we touch, pause, and transform.

All types of emotions; those you wish to welcome into your present moment, as well as those forgotten or given less attention, are welcome when you hold clay. Clay has a memory, and so do you. When these memories meet, change becomes visible. As Joy Harjo reminds us, "the earth does not resist. it receives. It transforms."

The workshop begins with a short, gentle guided meditation while holding clay, allowing the body to arrive before the mind. From there, we create slowly, following what the clay invites rather than aiming for a specific result.

This offering is not about skill or finished objects. It is about reconnecting with your creative self in a way that feels authentic and uniquely yours. A reminder that change is welcomed, that reshaping is possible, and that unfinished is a valid place to arrive.

Together, we move through simple, caring prompts, toward stillness, trust, and (subtle) transformation.

Let emotion be a channel.
Let clay be a companion.
You are welcome exactly as you are.

Accessibility information

The workshop will take place on the second floor. The elevator is currently out of order, but will hopefully be fixed by the time the workshop takes place. You will receive an update once that is the case. The building is accessible for wheelchair users (when the elevator works). The rooms on each floor are all level, and there are accessible all-gender restrooms. There are also tactile floor elements and guide strips. The stair railings and elevator buttons are labeled in Braille. There are no switches for opening the doors. The event will be held in spoken English.

Please take a Covid test beforehand and stay at home if you are experiencing even mild symptoms. There will be an air purifier in the room.

Some more things to keep in mind

To help us begin smoothly, please plan to arrive about 15–20 minutes early so you have time to settle in and take a Covid test if you haven’t been able to do so at home.

We’ll be working with different types of clay, so things may get a bit messy. The clay washes off easily, but clothes might get a little dirty—please keep this in mind when choosing what to wear.

Some skin can be sensitive to clay. I’ll have gloves and hand cream available, and you’re very welcome to bring anything else that helps you feel comfortable.

Please bring a box or container/ tupperware to take your creations home safely (this is important to bring).
